Thought I could tackle this but apparently not.

The story:
bought timing belt, tore car apart to install, replaced all seals and water pump.installed timing belt, but for some reason, I don't think it's aligned.

Intake cam notch is pointed at the 'e' on the timing plate
exhaust cam I mark is pointed at the 'I' on the timing plate
crank, had no mark on pulley where tdc was so I turned the engine and put a screwdriver down cylinder 1 and got as close to tdc as possible. Can anyone help me with this?

I don't want to start before I know I have it correct.

Should be an arrow on the backing plate in the 12 o'clock position. Then find the little notch on the outer lip of the balancer. Line the two up. No amount of rust should keepbyou from seeing the little mark. However you want to time it from there is your own decision, but if I remember it won't matter much because you should have vvt on intake.
