I'm hoping someone can help me here. I have a 1999 with a seized engine. In my search I've discovered that a 1.8 for a 1999 / 2000 are pretty hard to find. But I've found several JDM importers selling 1999 / 2000 replacements, but they're 1.6 and not 1.8. Does the 1999 / 2000 Miata in Japan use the 1.6 ? Will one of these 1.6 engines from Japan work in my 1999 without any issues?

TIA,
Dan

There are JDM 1.8s that would work.

The JDM 1.6 might work, but will make less power and probably have some small hurdles to jump to get it to play nice/correctly in a USDM car, negating any cost savings by buying the inferior motor to start.

99-00 1.8s are very easy to find, you just have to be willing to pay more than $500 for one. ;)

OK, another question. I found a 1.8 engine code BP5A and mine is a BP4Y, will this work? the only difference I can see is that the BP4Y has a cast exhaust manifold and the BP5A has 4-2 steel manifold (more like a header). Everything else appears to be the same.

Thanks,
Dan
