On my 2003, it was a simple firm twist, remove, replace. On the 04 Mazdaspeed I can't get it to turn for the life of me. Feels like I'm seriously going to break something by twisting so hard. Is there something differs on this model? Or if not, is there any real way to do damage by twisting the $&#** out of it to get it to budge? Yikes....

OK...futher investigation noted that there is a screw on cap at the bottom of the knob...when lowered it reveals two hex screws that tighten onto the shaft. Got those loose and it came right off. Nothing like this on my 2003. Anyway...thanks for the help. And yes, lefty loosey worked best :)
