I have some more rigid stuff that I want to put under the window lip instead of on top of it. I think anything you put on the top is going to allow some water in no matter what.
You need a drip edge to disrupt the water. In theory, any disruption should cause the water to run down the back of the roof, but the water seems to speed up too fast when cornering and it acts more like a ramp than a gutter.
