We have taken the just released Wilwood front big brake kit, made a few tweaks and called it our own.

Now taking orders for the first shipment around October 10th. To sweeten the deal we're including free shipping for the any paid orders by Oct 9th, 11pm EST.

The standard 140-11704 Wilwood kit ($634) does not include brake fluid ($16) or lines ($66). We add them in, lower the total price and throw in free shipping to the 48 US states.

Options include our own custom designed directional race rotors (plain, not slotted or drilled) and Carbotech brake pads. Pricing is available on the website so click the links to see what it'll cost for the combination you want.

Our kit includes everything shown. We won't actually be offering the standard Wilwood kit missing lines and fluid. Plain rotors only, no drilled, no slotted, no fancy plating. Just functional race rotors.

For almost 1/3 the price difference ($629 vs. 1789) what are the real differences between just this kit(for only the front) vs. the more expensive kit(for all 4 wheels)?

I can't imagine the price being that drastically different since they seem to use the same components when concerned with the front.

also, upgradable to 6piston? site mentions 6 piston but it's not even an option

Oops, 6 pot should be there. Have to fix that.

Difference is largely just economies of scale. Wilwood makes maybe 1000 BBK's to every 1 Goodwin makes. The standard straight vane rotor is not nearly as good as Goodwin's DBA but it also costs less than half as much. Goodwin's V1 through V3 used the same basic straight vane until he redesigned for the trick DBA rotor for the current V4 kit. The 160-5840 Wilwood straight vane just doesn't get the job done in a fast F/I track Miata or even V8 powered street car when driven hard.

We address the shortcoming of the base straight vane disc by making our own higher quality directional vane race rotors. That done, the 949 Racing kit offers what I think is the most performance for the dollar of anything on the market, including the other kits we offer.

For 95% of the folks out there running street or autocross only, low boost or N/A or lighter cars, the standard straight vane rotor is still more than enough. Many happy customers of V1-V3 kits over the years. Going to DP6's only recommended for really heavy or uber fast Miatae. Otherwise it's just extra weight you probably don't need. They do look awfully sexy though!

We're working on a rear version of this kit that should be similarly cost effective.

Ok cool to know.

soon as the rear is ready I'd take this with 6 piston in front ASAP :) like you mentioned, more weight, but SOOOO much sexier LOL

the rotors on the goodwin based kit LOOK sexier/beefier(10 bolts vs. 6 bolts), but if that's the primary price difference I'll gladly go with the cheaper version, good thing this is coming out now because after wheels/widebody that was going to be my next big upgrade(already have the BRK & hawk HP+ with stainless lines....want more stopping power & less weight)

which reminds me, if this is 8lbs lighter than the front for a stock setup how much lighter is this compared to the BRK utilizing the corrado rotors in the front & the sport brakes in the rear?

BRK is about 5 lbs heavier than stock and don't get as much airflow. No comparison.

You may be in for a wait for the rears. It'll be a while before that reaches market and there won't be redundant parts so no particular reason to wait. Unless the brake torque bias will be an issue but we recommend high torque pads in rear and a prop valve anyway.

WOW 13lbs total for just the front on BRK's....any idea how much of that is rotational weight?(difference between the discs)

sorry for so mayny questions up front, it's just so I'll have fewer later & I'm sure I'm not the only one with these style questions

Rotors are the heaviest part of the Corrado rotor BRK upgrade by far.

This is really sweet. Props to you Emilio for bringing stuff like this to the market at very tempting price points.

I am really considering ordering this for my turbo Miata. Are there any clearance issues for the 4 pot kit with 15 in wheels? Two primary sets of wheels these would have to clear are 15x9 +10 and 15x8 +15. Both are standard disk wheels, none of that 0' disk stuff.

Shouldn't be any problem with fit. Check the template on our website against your wheels.

I saw Wilwood has part numbers for just the caliper brackets and hardware. Do you know how much they will be?

Emilio, hurry up with the complete front and rear version and I'm so on these :) a BBK kit at around $1000-1300 price range is very very tempting. VERY TEMPTING!

I want this kit for the SM. Think it'd pass tech?

My real question is how long are pads lasting when using this kit? Might be something we seriously consider for an enduro car we're looking into building!

No standardized pad wear criteria that I know of. I tend to use Spec Miatae as a benchmark. Stock 1.8 brakes at Thunderhill 25 in a competitive car require XP8's up front. XP10's won't quite make it. With a directional rotor BBK on a lighter but much faster F/I track car, XP12's will last 6-12 hours. That same F/I car on stock brakes would struggle to make an hour on OEM brakes with XP12's. Our Rental will go through a set of front XP10's in about 3 hours but our faster OGK with an 11" BBK would get about 5 hours.

That probably doesn't help you but everything else being equal, the cooler they run, the longer they last. The added benefit is that changing pads on a DL4 with QR pins is a piece of cake, even with gloved hands at night.
