Re: bedheadben's Street/Track Build Thread!

Alright so today I've installed the tow strap and found a way to mount my license plate so that it's easily removable at the track yet still being semi-legal on the street. Yes, I know I am blocking all the airflow to my radiator but I really don't care because like I said, it comes off at the track. Later today I'll work on removing a broken bolt from my second Sparco, it's already snapped one Craftsman easy out bit...

Drying my gloves on the roll bar

Fully packed trunk for Miata Challenge at Auto Club Speedway

The mentioned new cross braced roll bar from Hard Dog along with a seat detail

The intake setup

Improved front bumper dents, still need a little work

More sticker action

New plate mounting with the tow strap hanging out

How the tow strap will normally be tucked back as to not scrape on the ground

Re: bedheadben's Street/Track Build Thread!

I will take some tomorrow or later tonight. At first I thought it would have a terrible blind spot but I've actually found that it has better visibility than any braced roll bar I've ever seen. The point where the cross braces meet is right at the base of the soft top when I'm looking through the rear view so it really doesn't block anything.

Re: bedheadben's Street/Track Build Thread!

Way to be morbid. And why is that? I asked for my roll bar with a weld in harness bar and they sent me one without, that's not my fault.

J/K but the brace was intended to stiffen the chassis not to be pulled from any one direction(harness) If you asked for a harness bar, then why did you not send it back?...you paid extra for that?

Re: bedheadben's Street/Track Build Thread!

I did not pay extra for it and I needed the bar in the car by the end of the next day for the Miata Challenge. My chassis stiffener is held in by two grade 8 bolts so I'm sure it will be fine.

OK, its your safety. This was just a heads up. If your harness was bolted down with those grade 8 bolts, then thats a different story...its the bar...

The bar is one big solid piece of steel, I'm not worried about it.

Re: bedheadben's Street/Track Build Thread!

Its not a solid piece of steel, and you should be. Again this is just a heads up. Not trying to be a ****. But if you keep on thinking that your cockpit brace is a harness bar then thats where you're wrong. Just push up or down on it. Does it flex or move a little? Everyone thats has one knows it does. Does a real harness bar flex at all? NO.
If this is your "track car", choose the best parts when it comes to safety. No half assing in this department.

I'm going to get one welded in when I have the time, but this will do for now.

You know what, just because I went out and checked on the chassis stiffener bar and found that like you said, it does flex, I've ordered a Hard Dog Harness Bar. Thanks for watching out.
