M2-1002 overhaul continues.

I'm having issues getting the bonnet to align correctly; the leading edge pulls down too far when closed. I've looked at adjusting the bonnet catch, and the bonnet hinges, to no avail. Anyone got any tips about this. Its pretty frustrating.

The bonnet catch is secured in place by two bolts on the slam panel, and a fixed stud and nut that passes through a bracket mounted to the slam panel. With the two bolts, there is a far amount of play, but less so on the stud. Is it worth ovalling the hole through which the stud passes?

How the bonnet looks closed:

You can see the rubber seal on the set plate; too much is visible.

My car is exactly the same. I know mine has been in some kind of minor front end collision in the past. As the bonnet is alligned with the fenders correctly, it would either be the front end of the bonnet is being flexed down to meet a low mounted bonnet catch or the mounts for the bumper have been forced up, making it sit high in the middle... :?:

Strangely, the bonnet looked ok when I got the car:

The bumper had to come off to try and sort this:

The front edge of the passenger headlight lid hit the rubber seal, and wouldn't sit flush. The drivers side sat fine.

I took off the bumper;

Looks fine; all the slots line up perfectly. Remember, this was the side where the headlight didn't lie flush.

Umm, there's the previous damage.

Its been hit back in 1997 on the corner. They're pulled it. The wing is a replacement. The white stuff you see is filler they've used to caulk the join between the bumper and wing. I've stripped this off, and straightened the metalwork underneath, so it aligns better. I can't see any visible damage to the middle of the slam panel (cracked paint etc):

In the previous images, you can tell the paint under the panels hasn't been repainted; there are rusty bits where the paint has been thumped.

In the end, the original headlight issue was solved by realioning the entire headlight frame.

Before anyone says, yes I knew the car had been in an accident a long while ago. I have the original auction sheets detailing the damage, which I'll post up.
