In NZ, they found out you didn't need to chop a MX5 in half to drop in a Lexus V8. For a while, Bullet offered a TVR V8 option.

A company doing the conversion:

Labour rates in the land of the Kiwi are so low (and the quality high), people send Jags out from the UK for rebuilds, which are sent back with a bill still lower than having the same work done in the UK!

This is possibly the coolest V8 conversion, well its a bespoke V8 engine that the suppliers state is suitable for a MX5:

Drool over the spec:
40 valve 2.4 Liter V8, 10k rpm redline in road tune, 160lbs weight dressed. Power 320-3380hp, depending on tune. Its not going to be cheap.

The engine is £18000, with the suppliers offering to fit it to your car for £10,000. Possibly the most expensive conversion, but the coolest.

The Bullet car is a complete rebuild; they cut the front end off a MX5. In fact the end result is type approved by the Aussie authorities as a new car. There's not much left of the MX5.

Bit suspect if this car is still around; the original company ran into problems getting certification, and was brought out by AEC. AEC right now seems in a right financial state, and Bullet is definetely a sideline to its main business.
