Sup dudes (and dudettes, if any)...

Anyways, a few months ago, people were talking about a DIY paint job method using rollers...topic was here & on RDrift.com

So, I decided to try it out. I've been making very slow progress because I don't have a garage...and have been taking off pieces one at a time & bringing inside my apartment to paint (and dry & paint & dry).

Well, I'm still not finished, but thought I'd update a little...

1) So far, I've painted: gas-lid, trunk, hood, front fenders, rear center panel

2) I'm trying different mixes (ratio) of colors...its different shades on purpose, I'll recoat everything at once later

Tell me what you guys think...feedback would be appreciated (even negative ones)...THANKS!!!

not a big fan of the mint green color, but of the pics posted I'd say the front fender turned out the best.

of course, with the right wheels, I just might change my mind about the color
I like the fender. The color reminds me of Lance Schall's car...the color was Indian Torquoise.

As an aside...do a Google search for him...that guy is all over the place!
Pretty sweet idea. DIY painting can be very hard and frustrating (and expensive) if you try to do it with spray paints as the tools and chemicals require skill and practice. If all you're looking for is a race car quality paint job and have lots of time on your hands to wet sand I think you could get decent results. The color reminds me of my old Bianchi celeste green.
Re: So, I thought its time I give an update on the DIY Paint Job ^-^

nice i was thinking of a DIY paint job too
it looks like its coming along very nicely. the trick to the roller method is patience, i know from experience.

The color of wet Comet cleanser! =D>
fender is better IMO

Is this supposed to be glossy in the end or flat to hide the roller marks (if any)?
I always knew you were a bit feminine jimmy
Ha-Ha...very funny, Derek! Hey, we're driving "girly cars" anyways...

And once again, these are not the final colors...I'm still messing w/ various shades. ^-^

Well, there is quite a bit of running...due to my impatience, I guess. Also, there are some major air-bubbles that never fully popped.

But my plan of attack is this...I'm just gonna coat all the panels a section at a time...playing w/ various shades as I go...after enough coats have been applied, wet sand to remove all the runs & bubbles...then re-coat everything all over, this time at once w/ final shade...finally wet sand again w/ super fine grit paper...buff & polish.

Here's the thing, I don't expect this thing to come out as if a professional shop painted. I'll make it as perfect as I can before getting too lazy, and that's all I think we should expect for $100. Besides, if I were doing a plain color like white or black, it would be much easier. Mixing my own "special" shade of green (or any other color, for that matter) is a little more difficult.

Another update...9-21-06 ^-^

Well, I've been trying to be productive on my day off...so did a little more painting today. I started the 1st coat on rear-bumper (took off mud-guards to do seperately)...and recoated pass. front fender.

Took a few more pix to show you guys...enjoy!!!
