Hey guys, I am a noob when it comes to miatas and i am new to CR and unfortunately my miata looks like it is going to start to a dump on me pretty soon :fp:, so I am not sure what I want to do yet. I was thinking to get another 1.6 engine or upgrade to 1.8 engine, I also have a few friends who said I should do a 13b turbo/ 13b na rotary swap but idk. I am looking for the cheapest way ( I'll take a running engine donation) lol jk. so if anyone would want to help or give me any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. THANKS

Depending on what is wrong with your car it could potentially be fixed. If you do get it fixed I'd say start with what you have and use it as a starter for learning the basics and ins and outs of upgrading a vehicle and enhancing various things with it. Once you have it down fairly well then go for a swap. It's all gradual, like baby steps.

From a price standpoint. You could but a 13b for like a grand.

Or you could buy a running NA miata for like 800 off craigslist.

Do Da Math

You can almost definitely find a running 1.6 for sale for just a few hundred bones, do a one for one swap, and be done in just a few hours. Obviously theres performance gains with the 1.8, but if you just want it done, and done cheap, just throw the same thing back in it.

If you cannot weld and do automotive metal fabrication you aren't getting a 13b in your car for under $10,000. It is not a bolt in swap, literally not one thing is. You will be designing and building every last part. No kits are available.

If you are tight on cash, just find a 1.6 and keep it on the road. If you are chasing power, a 1.8 isn't much more than a 1.6, plus it's a straight forward swap.

Do some research on this. This topic is beaten to death. There was a decent thread not too long ago about this topic on this forum. Plus, a 1.8 swap is the most common swap out there. Anything you need to know is already out there. Put sometime in and figure out whether the pros and cons, decide if you feel it's worth it.

Go on flying miatas site. They have a kit and a guide for a 1.8 swap into 1.6. It covers everything. You don't need a harness unless you ruined yours. Search, read, prosper.

Need to make a thread and sticky it with where to go for a 1.8 into 1.6 swap so there are less question about it.

it doesn't get more jdm then the motor in your car man.

Again tons of turbo options for the 1.6 and 1.8. 3 options for superchargers. IHE upgrades nets if your lucky 10hp combined. If you want more then 170hp supercharged, your going to want a 1.8 to keep it reliable. By the sounds of your tight purse, the 1.8 will be the best upgrade since your at that fork in the road now. Which is better then being modded on a 1.6 and making the jump.

if you got the couple extra $, do the 1.8 if not and it's tight. do the 1.6 or ride the bus and save, or get a GFE and make her drive you places.. or BFE since all is fair in love and transportation.

rereading your last post, if your no going to boost either method, 1.6 will never net you more then what you got now. All you can do is free-up which the best bang for the buck i noticed was a lightweight flywheel.

Do the 1.8 please so we don't hear you regretting it next month please.
