Duuude, you should know better then that! IRTBs isn't about ultimate power, true, but the throttle response and liveliness of the engine are untouched! Heck I've driven a stroked Honda B18C engine (210+hp) and its NOTHING compared to an IRTB B16 (175+hp).

I guess it depends on what you are going after.

Oh yeah, that FM engine just gave me a chubby.
I was talking about that with Jeremy from flyin miata yesterday. Im seeing what help i can get with my project from them. If this works out, ill be going this route instead of the supercharger+irtb setup. but we'll see
I saw Keith at a track day here in Pueblo on the 22nd of last month, I'll bet this is the engine for their Targa Newfoundland car. He said they were building a 2 liter verison of the engine in his locost. But roller barrel throttle bodies!!! Damn! No low speed throttle control but no restriction at WOT.

No coolant reroute?! I can't believe FM still hasn't made a reroute kit. :-k

So whose IRTB kit is FM using?

And what does roller barrel mean?

Unless you're driving a racecar (or at WOT all the time on the street) it doesn't sound like a very good deal to me...
Who says you can't have IRTBs and boost? JeremyS on Miata.net has a great setup with IRTBs and a turbo. Something I would like to do in the future.
They look beautifull :D :D :D
A roller barrel throttle has all the intake openings on the throttle body on one shaft. Esentially think of two pieces of PVC. One inside the other, cut holes for 4 ports in each. At closed throttle, the inside roller (imagine its not hollow so that air can only go thorugh the holes not length wise) has the ports facing up and down, as you open the throttle the inside rotates, and as the ports on the inside piece and the outside peice line up thats how the engine sees air. If you look at normal IRTBs there is still a bar in the air path and a butterffly that restrict airflow. With the roller set up when the inside piece and outside peice line up theres no restricition. Yu don't have as fine of control at small throttle openings, which is why you usually only see them on race cars, all Champ Cars have roller throttles. I hope that made sense, I can draw a pic on photoshop after work if people are still confuzed.

I think the butterfly's in the throttle bodies are replaced with a rotating barrel to allow air in ... can't remember why this is more of an advantage though and they still don't look as nice as R S Aizawa ones
Bill, think ball valve for intakes.

the benefit is at WOT, there's no rod and butterfly horizontally in there creating airflow disturbance. Just a smooooooth hole. Some even pivot on needle bearings. smoooooth.

I wonder if a variable rate throttle linkage would help offset the downsides at small throttle openings.
that looks like a cosworth itb setup.
BAM! They are roughly 1400.00 from them but they dont offer them for the miata. So that means custom work from FM and money money money

im guessing by the time this kist is done from them, if it works, is going to be in the 3-4500 dollar range.
Just looking at that motor, I must go make hand relief.
