Alright it is the time for the girlfriend car again LOL.

We looking for 15-20k around 60k miles cars as her FIRST car.

As a NB owner, I want to see her buy something with little more handling than Accord/Camry type car.

Must be AUTO, 4 seats(doesnt matter 2/4 doors)

The car will be commute around 5-10 miles daily since we live close to her school.

We kinda narrow down to 05-06 RSX and 06-08 TSX.

Can't decide which one to go.

How they compare to the handling, power and reliability?
I heard a 06 rsx with basic bolt ons without boosting is kinda near what the STOCK TSX will put down to the wheels.

Anyways give me some ideas guys.

Her first car should be a beater not a 15-20 thousand dollar car. Shes only going to crash it. Say what you want, that shes an amazing driver blah blah blah. You can account for the rest of the stupid asshole drivers we have out there, that will cut her off and blow stop signs yada yada. She doesnt have the experience to judge what people are going to do.

Be smart, take 5 thousand dollars and search for a great deal on a acura integra. You can even tell her its the original rsx and with the money saved you can even throw suspension and bolt ons and make it a faster better handling car then either the rsx and tsx and still have money saved.

Also insurance will be through the roof. New car, " luxury import " and first time driver.

Think about it

damn... my first car was a 2000.- Seat that I beat the crap out of. I agree with JohnKimble: spend 5 grand at max and save the rest for whatever else is needed or might be needed in the future.

anyway... If I were to commute 5 miles/day I'd ride my bike...

I agree with Det.John.
Unless you're loaded with money, buying a new car for a first time driver isn't really a smart thing to do.

Agreed with above, chances are slim she won't total it.

Get your socialist ideas out of here! In America, we drive everywhere, no matter how short the distance, which is how we became the ample society that we are today!

(In all seriousness, I agree 100% with Rocco and others say).

Girls driving nice cars is usually a nono... My sister always got new cars, that looked like beaters within a year (dings all over, key marks, bumpers bumped alot, never washed, dirty interior). When she got TSB notices in the mail, she ignored them until the TSB related part actually failed (and they always did within 6 months). When she loses a tire, she buys a $30 special from the local junk yard, and thus ends up w/ like 3 diff tires on. Her alignment is off, and slightly pulls to the left, she doesn't care, and won't spend the money on an alignment. Her brakes are starting to squeal, she ignores my advice to change pads. I'm expecting a call due to brake failure any day now. Heck she refuses to pay me back for the oil I bought and changed for her last oil change.

I see your point. I know integra is a good car.

There is a thing I forgot is all the maintance/repair work will be done by me. I don't want to deal with German cars.

She will take 10 year 100k a4/bimmer e46 rather than brand new or 1 year old civic. The only thing she care is the look to be honest. After I tell her the German maintance/repair fee problems we narrow the rsx and tsx.

We will buy the car cash so reliability insurance will not be big deal

Do here is the thing no outdated looking and german makes.

Is there any other cars? Rsx? Tsx?

Your location would help us pick a car cause, if you are in a nice climate, convertibles and sport coupes are in the mix any others you want something that is more liveable in the winter. My personal dd is an 07 mazda6 which hasn't left me stranded, auto is ok, handling is better than most 4 doors and they are well under your 15-20K limit. My other thought would be the new hyundai elantra.

That's very true. Girls beat the **** of up their cars.

Since she doesn't drive that much the car will be my second car and I will follow up the maintance as my NB :)

Give me some ideas which one to go rsx or tsx?

I live in SoCal area so weather not a big deal.
4 doors and auto are must since NB is the only car I have and she can't drive stick and will never want to drive stick.
Also some little style for girls not too big ( easier to lose bumpers)
Mazda 6 seems a little too big tho.what u think about the Mazda 3 hatch?
Never drive one before. It is always good to have 2 Mazda right?

get her an integra and buy the 1300 dollar jdm front end conversion, take 2500 to get it painted in her favorite color. rest of money, goes to rims and what ever else your heart desires..... she will have the nicest car that wont fail with money to spare.

if she drives that little and your range is that high, get her into a lease. new car, under warranty, turn it in 3 years later. personally, I hate leases.

if she's worried about appearances, you *could* give her the choice between a reasonably price used car for $5k and a bus pass. it sounds like her car is really more like a second car for you.

i agree with the general sentiment, a $15k car for a new driver is like taking that cash and setting it on fire.
