To get to the nut on the wheel hub, you have to take off this little metal protector ring thingy.

But it's dented in on one side to prevent people from taking it off.

Any luck getting that little thing off? I've already broken two flatheads and an ice pick trying to pull the little tab out.

Just curious because I have a bad axle and it's vibrating and knocking around. Getting annoying.

Will it not mess up the threads on the half shaft?

start off using the right tools first, its really really hard to take off the jam nut w/ the bend there.

go buy a punch set.

Great pic showing the proper method..

Only other tip I would offer is that it is MUCH easier to break the nut loose before you jack up the car and remove the wheel...just pop the center cap...use the punch to lift the tab a bit...then put your socket and breaker bar on the nut to break it loose...then jack up the car and proceed with axle removal
