Do/have you own(ed) a Honda Element?

I've noticed quite a few people that own Elements also own miatas. They are both polarizing cars, which I think might attract similar buyers.

I personally currently own a Element and a miata, and love both of them. Is there anyone else out there or am I just making this up?

My girl really wants an Element. I have no interest whatsoever in something with that much plastic-y, jutting trim on it...but they are extremely practical and a good value.
Value, and the availability of a manual tranny is basically what it came down to for me. Got my 03 for $6,000 with a 5spd manual. I had a few lifted jeeps and a lifted isuzu amigo. All of them were great but 14-18 mpg wasn't so great. I'm getting 22mpg on the highway, 23-24 around town with the element, lifted with +1 tires. The manual has a much shorter final drive than the automatic and actually gets worse gas mileage than the automatic does (probably the only car I've seen where this is true). Still though, automatics are garbage and I'd much rather select my own gears so I had to have a manual.

For anyone looking at an automatic model, my dad has one that's at 240,000 miles with the original transmission. No signs of slipping or improper performance.

They're also dead reliable. The K-series if well maintained is basically a 200,000+ care free motor. Even at 200K a timing chain tensioner, and a valve adjustment is probably all you'll need to do to it.

It's my last name...what's auto-x?

j/k man, yeah it's because of auto-x. I've taken some time off the past few years to get serious about finishing school. My main problem is I never can seem to keep a car for a whole season. This miata is car #15 for me, we'll see how long it lasts.

What's the towing capacity on those and how much does your 2wheel trailer weigh (if you know)? I'm trying to sort out a reasonable towing combo for me Trk car..
In the US they're only rated to tow 1500lbs I believe. In australia they're rated for ~2600 auto and ~3400 in manual trim but both of those figures are with trailer brakes. I would imagine the tow dolly weighs ~500-600lbs. It towed the miata as set up in that picture just fine. Pulled every hill through the mountains of NC on I-40 in 5th gear. Brakes did feel a little weak, but if you use your head that should never be a problem. That said I wouldn't recommend it as an every other weekend tow vehicle. Maybe a few times a year, eventually the added weight will start to take it's wear. In the end you have to think it's really just a big civic hatchback.

You're probably better off with something that has a frame under it and a little heavier duty brakes/supension. A 4cylinder toyota or nissan truck will pull a miata fine and hold up to years of abuse.

Thanks Cone...I've been looking at 4Runners...I didn't really know much about the Element so thought I'd ask. I'd like to go Diesel but don't want a pickup and most of the SUV's are pretty expensive. I currently drive a Subaru Forester so want something that is either more capable for more things (4Runner with offroad capability, more space, better looking) or something with better mileage (ML350 Bluetec or Touareg etc)....but all are significantly more than my current car.
