my car has no ac...and initially i thought the hvac panel wasn't one that was used for ac either until i took the fan knob off today.

stock knob taken off

ac button underneath

ac button pressed

my new fan knob

is there any way to remove the "ac button" from underneath the fan knob?
or will i need a new hvac panel, one that doesn't have that ac button?

Do you know if there IS a control with no A/C button? Check the Mazda parts diagrams.

And yeah, that's not something most people would know about. :)

well, i just "assumed" for cars that didn't have ac, there's a separate hvac unit.
but i checked last night and came across this diagram

which leads me to believe perhaps it is the same unit.
i gotta check more diagrams...idk

also found these pics as well

so it looks like it has the button even though it's not on the knob itself.
ugh

got it figured out...

remove hvac panel

unscrew fan/ac control

pop the box open that contains the "beginning" of ac button

unscrew that **** and remove. reassemble box without ac button

install new knob

now i just have to rough it up, so it's not shiny.

Good writeup, my AC button quit working (and my AC quit working long before that), so this will be useful for me when I pull all that stuff out. Thanks mang

may i ask how you managed to take off the a/c button. my a/c button has rotated a good 45 degrees and i'd like to reposition it. do you have to take the hvac panel off the center console to do this?

Just grab it and pull it off.

(well, mine was loose, so.. don't break anything. Can someone verify?)
