So after a long time finally got some time and money to spend on this...
So after a bit of this

IMG_4520 by davemx-5, on Flickr

IMG_4629 by davemx-5, on Flickr

Then started to look at the front sills as muck and water was sitting in between the sill and wing wanted to do some basic rust proofing. Cleaned it all off with a wire brush then used kurust and painted on some waxoyl.

IMG_4731 by davemx-5, on Flickr

Then set off about fiberglassing and filling all the bumper wholes and the cracks and **** in the splitter. Got rid of the ugly rear fog as well and wired that into the drivers side reverse light. Also wired up the the sidelights for a bit of usdmness.

The wheels studs were a balls to replace one of the shitty alloy nuts snapped in half went I went to replace them. Went for extended wheel studs so I could run 10mm front and rear wheel spacers with no problems. Its ridiculous how short the standard studs are.

Here's the little runt of a thing after a dremel and sledge hammer persuasion ha

IMG_4761 by davemx-5, on Flickr

And here's the finished pictures delighted with the outcome. Still need to wet and dry sand the bumpers and buff it after the lacquer when I can be arsed and fit the mk2.5 s-vt brakes.

After buffing the hradtop and number plate panel matches the car now looks a lot better

And as you can see I still need to flatten the lacquer back and buff the front bumper and lower half of the rear bumper but have abosultely no spare time at the minute, back finishing off the master now!

Well after a bachelors, a stint in new york, a masters and a stint in London, I've finally settled in a full time job back in Ireland so out this came and off on a trailer to get:

-sill cut out and welded, good as new job, no short cuts.
-horn wired in.
-New front tyres, yokohama's.
-Full steam clean, wire brush down and underseal.

Poor thing looks pretty sorry for itself:

All going well should have this vrt'd and on the road by the new year. Can't imagine it'll need much for the nct, other than new coilovers, after only doing 400 miles in the last 3 and a half years!!

Nice MX-5, man. I like it alot minus the tow hook. If I may ask, what are those fog lights called and where did you get them?

Thanks!
I don't mind the tow hook! It makes it look like a tongue! :haiguyths:

Nice Roadster buddy! Too bad half your pictures aren't working though!! :cry2:

The fog lights are actually standard on jap import s-ltd models. But had to buy a set as they were taken off mine long before I got it.

Nengun usually have a few or keep an eye on ebay!

Time to get it ready for nct..

New BC Coilovers

IMG_5026 by davemx-5, on Flickr

14 inch wheels with fresh tyres and no stretch (which no longer fit now due to the big brake kit, up for sale now;-))

20150613_201511 by davemx-5, on Flickr

Got fresh engine oil change, diff oil, gearbox oil, new timing belt, and coolant change. I've no pictures of this unfortunately wanted it done as quick as possible ha ha.

Then started driving it and the rear brakes were smoking after a 20 minute drive, but what do you expect when it's been off the road 4 and a bit years!ha
Put it through the nct like this, and to my surprise all it failed on was sidelights, handbrake, exhaust leak and noise.

So part of my plans for turboing the car I had bought a big brake kit off a mk2.5 s-vt. Got these on along with brand new brake lines all round for the mk2.5 brakes and brand new discs and pads all round.

Got these on and went for a drive and the front right was completely seized, nct retest in 4 days so thought **** it and bought a refurbished calliper.

This is now the size of the brakes....so worth the extra money. Stops so easy now!

This is the before, just for comparison!

5-1. by davemx-5, on Flickr

020-1 by davemx-5, on Flickr

Then got a silencer welded in, nice and small, still noisey enough thankully!ha

Had to get new clocks as the speedo stopped working.
IMG_5059 by davemx-5, on Flickr

Put the car through the nct at this stage. Thankfully passed and been really enjoying driving it now!

I bought a coolant overflow tank, to keep an eye on the coolant level, previous owner had it rerouted into a coke bottle hidden behind the bumper!ha

IMG_5201 by davemx-5, on Flickr

Then after seeing all the pictures of the mx5's rolled, and the a pillar's totally collapsing, going around book face recently. I bought a brand new cusco 7 point dash dodger roll cage from rhdjapan. Took a month to come.

I test fitted it and put it together sitting in the car. With the bride seats, they are too wide for it at the back and cant go back far at all. It made the cabin shocking cramped and because I had to sit so far forward it made the top bar really close to my head. So I've put off fitting it until I get some bucket seats, harnesses and floor mount them. Hopefully that should give me a bit of extra space.

When I removed the cage this is how far forward the seats had to be with the cage in just to give you an idea...

IMG_5204 by davemx-5, on Flickr

This is how far back I like them...

This is How close it was to my head

IMG_5195 by davemx-5, on Flickr

Took a spin down to portnoo beach, finally getting to enjoy driving it now!

-Upgrade to an alloy rad
-Rota Kyusha 15x9's
-slap of the lowering stick
-It's currently getting a new alarm/immobiliser and central locking with a motion and microwave sensor

Having a bit of a pain with this recently....No pictures of this yet.

Got the car back from the auto electrician and less than 24 hours the headlights stopped popping up, cigarette lighter stopped working, auto lockin not working and cigarette lighter stopped working.

Was sickened having to drop the car back again after I spent so much. But I got it back a few days later and all good again!

Started the car in the garage a day later, closed the door, went to open garage doors, came back to get in the car......****! Forgot about the new auto locking with the new alarm/immob and central locking. I only have one key and as I just got it back the spare fob was in the car.

Tried prickin about with a hanger, then heard the electric fans cutting in as the car was getting too hot so had to man up and smashed the passenger side window to get in and turn it off. Was absolutely sickened having to break into my own car ha ha

Anyway bought a brand new 40mm core Alloy Rad, I.L. Motorsports, from mx5parts, and a new window fitted last weekend and car is running perfect now, or so I thought!

Went for a quick spin and the headlights stopped popping up on the stalk. So back in the garage again waiting to go back to the auto electrician again!

xWell this has had to go back to the mechanic once again after more problems with the alarm and central locking.

On the plus side I found a mazdaspeed a spec front bumper that should be on its way to me soon. Its just had some fiberglass cracking fixed and fresh coat of primer. So I'll be getting a fresh coat of pz black on when it arrives and get some pics up then.
Going to put 3 months tax on it now in august and hopefully put up a few miles on it when I'm home for a few weeks.

Here's a few pictures of the bumper as it stands:

Oil filter, air filter, and oil change done in March, then off to nct and failed on air filter housing bracket.

20180325_195935 by davemx-5, on Flickr

I bought a cobalt back box and dropped it to the mechanic, with all new exhaust gaskets from manifold back and to get the air filter housing bracket fixed.

Here's a shitty picture of the cobalt exhaust. Delighted with the exhaust, well worth the money and would highly recommend.

This is now back out of hibernation and took the hardtop off.

The softtop had shrunk, I had to leave the car in the sun for a full day to stretch it back to normal.

20180506_164754 by davemx-5, on Flickr

I noticed the car was getting warm and if I put the air onto hot, the problem stopped. Checked the thermostat, and didnt open at all so was swiftly replaced.

Took it for a 200km spin around Donegal today around the coast, top down the whole way and managed to get burnt with factor 50 on. It's such a fun car and so involving to drive and not much danger of loosing your license as your never going as fast as you feel.

20180526_135101 by davemx-5, on Flickr

I've finally got Mazdaspeed sideskirts to match the front bumper so plan is to get a rusty sil, the sideskirts and front bumper painted up and fitted asap.

I'v also been filling the sidelight holes up on a spare mx5 bumper to match up with the mazdaspeed front bumper.
