With all this talk about valve covers, i thought i'd give you guys a fun idea. It's the Protege / BP-T valve cover. Many of you know The Blue Potato has the Ford version. But here is the acutal Mazda one.

To get it to fit, follow these steps.

Take all internal baffles out and clean throughly.

Using a mallet, hit the breather nipple back INTO the valve cover, it will fall out nicely.

Now find a large screw to put in that hole. The trick is to put it on from the inside out, this way you don't have a bolt head on the outside. Cut off excess threads and smooth down.

I forget what size drill bit you need, but drill a hole where you see the yellow X in this picture.

This way you still use the same internal baffle for the nipple but still be able to use it as you need to.

After that, you'll ned to fab a small 90* bracket to hold the coil-pack to the valve cover.

You can kinda see it in this picture on the pax side at the back of the valve cover.

And thats all. I did mine wrinkle black with polished lines and letters.

Anyone know where to buy that breather nipple? (the metal thing the hose goes onto... I kind of brutalized mine to take it out of the back...the mallet wasn't working)

You can also you the longer factory blue NGK wires from a 90-94 protege if you need to move the coil pack a bit farther. I have the part number here somewhere in my garage, LOL

Are these mods required if you have a 1.6 and use a Capri valve cover?

If you use the NA CAS, then yes. Just like doing a 94-97 1.8L swap to a 1.6L. You may need the 94-97 CAS.

I have the VC but haven't installed it yet. I heard that there is also a longer sparkplug available that fits with the stock plug wires better, something about a difference in depth of the VC around the spark plugs prevents them from seating well. Anyone know anything about this ?

so is that a yes? pardon my ignorance.
No reason yoyu couldn't drill/use any fitting you please when relocating the breather hole. Just remember to use the same baffle. Once you take the baffle cover out, you'll see the area of potential placement.

Thank you doppelganger
No problem.
