Well it has come along! I have my chance to get my hands on a mazdaspeed turbo kit for under 1k. Was doing research and came to a problem. My car is an 01, has a bp-z3 and the mazdaspeed is a 99 bp-4w with lowered compression. Compression ratio is different and my car has vvt. Now i was talking to a friend last night and he told me that i could put a bigger headgasket on to lower the compression, but wont that be more vulnerable to blowing? And to take care of the vvt, doesnt hydra do it...... Or better yet, megasquirt?

No i am not going to miata turbo, they are all assholes lol

I'm going to guess you asked a retarded question over there and rightfully got laughed at.

There's no need to do any of that compression lowering stuff (lower compression is more forgiving with higher manifold pressures, but there's no reason why you can't put FI on it). You _will_ need an EMS, or at the least a FPR for fueling. You have a lot more reading to do. One other thing, Hydra is fucking terrible for tuning.

For some reason, I can't post at MT.net I don't know why, it just doesn't let me.

Sup brah.

Mazdaspeed setup will bolt on. You'll need a real ECU and some decent injectors. Look through my build thread, since I did this exact setup.

My car is a 2000, so no VVT. ECU will be different but the rest will be the same.

Adaptronic and hydra will support VVT (pretty sure, I have MS). You can get it to work wtih MS, but it's a bit more work. Either get MS3 or MS2/DIYPNP and their separate VVT tuner box from DIY Auto Tune. Another issue with 01+ is, DIYPNP doesn't support it out of the box... PM Reverant on MT if you want a unit to work with 01+, he builds them.

Don't worry about the compression ratio stuff, it's basically negated by the VVT on the 01+ engines. When the intake cam is fully retarded (or you have no VVT control), I would guesstimate the effective (dynamic) compression ratio is about the same as 99-00....it's fine bottom line

I'm on MT..... we're not all assholes, lol.

I have a 01 running turbo with the stock ecu. you don't need a bigger headgasket. Invest money on an adjustable timing wheel and upgrade the fuel system. Upgrade to 305 supra injectors and add an intercooler. with 5 or 6 pounds with stock ECU you will be alright.
