I don't frequent this board as much as I should really, but I've just finished installing a MegaSquirt DIY ECU to my NA Roadster. not really sure it's JDM either :? ;)

I've done a build log on the UK MX5nutz forum incase anyone wants to see it!

lol fire away!

Not sure if you can go completly standalone with the MS, although I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

AFAIK it can't control A/C compensation, or the strter motor and other boring stuff...

Starter motor shouldn't need ECU interference, I don't have AC, etc. :)

My concern lies in the lack of a trigger wheel on the pre-OBD2 cars, I'll be running full off of cam-timing. I'm not 100 percent enthused by that.

check out www.miataturbo.net loads of people have fitted them to early Miata.

If you're really worried you could just retrofit the later CAS?

yeah, plus I'm not much of a whiz when it comes to wiring. Programming shouldn't be a problem. so for $500 you can have a full stand alone and a base map. I don't give two sh*ts and a whistle if I didn't wire it myself.

Yes, checkout www.miataturbo.net it's been fitted by a very clever and helpful bloke who goes by the name of Reverant.

i'm looking at reverants build up, and i'm trying to see what information i can use for my 99, as far as I've heard, i'd just have to transplant a CAS into my car and wire it in. but i could be wrong, and not to forget the IAT, and i guess i would need a wideband

It's true that cam driven timing may not be as stable as the crank style, but have you seen any data which compares HP loss/gain between the two? I am interested in seeing what the difference actually is... I am running MS and decided to go with the cam trigger, and am quite happy with the result.

Of course, many people have added trigger wheels to their existing setups, so this is something that could be tackled later...

IMO you should consider just initially using the MS to control the Fuel. This would involve leaving the stock computer in place and routing 7 wires and vac line to the MS. After you have that working, then you can add the ignition. This way, if you have troubles getting the car to run, it is easier to figure out what is wrong....
