i have been looking at a few 05+ legacy gt's for about a month now one im looking at that is at a dealership is a 05 legacy gt limited however its a auto. there asking 11,459 there is 89k on the car and the only place that i can find in the pics is the trunk has a dent. im looking at talking them down on the price i really dont want to spend over 9k. my plan is to find out how much background history i can on the car from them and what they know about the car. im assuming the t/b w/p turbo has not been replaced yet and will see if i can start talking them down from there. the way i see it they have 4-6k into the car on trade in. im thinking about putting 5k down.

so any tip on talking them down?

not really, i have only found 4 that are close to my price range, and this is the only one that has every thing i want aside from a 5 speed.

That's a major sacrifice. Just be sure you're REALLY ok with an auto, or spending the cash, time and effort of putting a 5speed in there.

That aside I think it comes down to the dealership. Some of them don't put the car much over what they will actually take for it, and others will put them a few grand above what they would accept on an offer. See if you can tell how long the car has been there (rusty rotors, etc) to get an idea of their position on it.

One time I was trying to talk a place down on a car and they eventually asked me if I even wanted the car since I was pointing out so many things wrong with it. At that point the salesperson is not going to work with you or be lenient at all. Pick your battles, talking them down ~20% might be a challenge.
