Hi, I'm really in a **** situation. I can't get into my trunk cos the barrel seems to not want to work. I have access to the interior of the car but all my late Xmas shopping and food for Xmas lunch is in the back. Is there any other way I can access the trunk from inside the car or is there any other way?? I'm desperate please help. It's an 89 na. Thanks guys

thats definitely a bummer. I forget what year mazda installed a trunk release next to the filler release. Trunks are about four hundred dollars new. Maybe take an angle grinder to the top of it?

Have you tried pushing down on the lid whilst turning the key?

They stick sometimes.

wd40 or some graphite (spit if you have neither of those), to see if it's frozen. I locksmith will charge about $100, depending on your area. A used trunk costs about $100.

Awesome write up! And to whoever posted about a new trunk, I can find them for 40-80 used in great condition on CL, so thats always an option too
