Are you located in Florida? I think I recognize your car. Were you at Russell Mazda in Clearwater for the Rotary Revolution a couple of months ago? If so, I met you there.

Yes that was me in Clearwater. And I do like to call it a "Z" mount and everyone just looks at me funny.
I will be down for a little while I just discovered a crack in the nose housing of my Diff. It's hard mounted to a backbone bar and it is taking too much load. I am getting ready to paint anyway so I I think I am going to fab some kind of torque bar for the front of the Diff. In order to do that I will need some space above the Diff. so the stock fuel tank will come out and a larger(more range) fuel cell will go in under/in the trunk/spare tire area. This will also allow me to fix the cornering pickup problem at low fuel levels. So the chain reaction has hit. But it will all be good in the end.

I did a FCTII trans and rear end swap and fabbed a bracket to recycle the rear diff nose bushing.

Bill that is what I am looking to do. How much movement up does your bracket give you?

Virtually none, just whatever flex the stiff bushing allows.

How is your car for traction? All of the suspension guy's I talk to say I need to allow for some movement(flex) upward of the nose of the Diff. and this will help with traction.

I don't know why you would want the nose to be able to move, especially given the proximity to the gas tank.

Bryan Downs did a solid diff nose mount on his 10 second Miata drag car but eventually it cracked. He advised me to use a bushing.

My car is still a work in progress. But the diff mounts were designed and fabbed by an experienced RX-7 race car builder. BTW, I used Mazda Comp bushings on the "wings" of the diff.

Yea I know space is an issue. I think the bushing should give it enough flex to not put too much load on the housing.

The movement upward is to aid in traction. It softens the torque impact to the rear tires. Usually you have a adjusable bushing or a unit that has springs that can be changed out to tune it to your setup.
