hey all,

Umm... basically at the mo my car is tricolour (NOT BY CHOICE) red, white and blue (french or USA) What I have been thinking is either saying Fu&* it and getting a full respray (I also have some orange peel) or just taking the time, and doing it myself.

I have a blue front bumper and a red Hartop.

I also have a spare front bumper with some damage that I am willing to practise on. What would you guys do?

Say bugger it and give it a go yourself? or err on the side of caution and fork out the cash and get it done properly?

Also some help would be hugely apreciated! Like step by step..

Properly do it. This colors won't matter cause it all needs priming and wet sanding anyways.

Alright Cheers, and thanks for telling me that I shouldnt own a car or touch tools... Everyone has to start somewhere I will be getting a few quotes over the next week

If you have the space, time, and patience do it yourself. If budget is of concern doing it yourself will allow you to use high quality materials. If you take it to a shop and try and get a budget job they will use lower quality paint and thinly coat it.

This really isn't a thing anyone but you can gauge. We don't know your skill, dedication, ability to follow directions. Just be prepared if you do it yourself correctly you will probably devote ~40 hours doing it.

I would love to be able to do it myself, although lets put it this way I have no skill when it comes to painting..

Budget should be of concern, although Insurance has been nice and paid out my written off Primera I am willing to spend a fair amount. I do want this car to be amazing. Thanks for your help

if you are willing to spend a good amount, bring it to a REPUTABLE body shop, i.e: not maaco...if they even have maaco there? Anyways, bring it to a body shop if you dont trust yourself. Have them fix all the cosmetic blemishes, rust, etc and have them paint it.

although, if you dont mind taking your time...and a lot of it after all the trial and error, which there will be a lot, then go for it. You will need to purchase all the tools for the job, which alone might end up being as much as a respray itself, but i am not sure.

I want this car to be my pride and hoy (never heard of maaco) but I will take it to a decent body shop. Kinda scary that in 2 years the car will be a classic...

Anyway, I think that the car has some potential to look great, and I don't want to ruin that (on this car anyway) so I will take it to a body shop

i think youre making a good choice.

and maaco is kind of like mcdonalds (maaco) to a classy steakhouse (reputable auto shop). you get what you pay for.

So, just got back from GT Pro Panel and Paint - they quoted $1500.. VERY tempting. I think I might say bugger it and get it done there, I have seen the cars that come out of there and om nom nom..
