Anybody pick up strangers in their Miata or other car? I am talking about anyone out on foot. Whether it be an attractive female, an elderly person with groceries, hitchhiker, etc. If so, how did it go? I have done so in the past. Heres the skinny:

1. Attractive female: Appeared to be in late teens/early 20s, Asian. She was walking and I pulled over and offered a ride, she paused for a second or two then politely declined. Rolled my window back up and drove away.

2. Old woman: Probably in her 60 or 70s with groceries (2 bags, one in each hand). Pulled over and offered a ride, she looked at me for about 3-4 seconds and said "Just 3 lights ahead if thats ok." I replied "No problem, hop in." Dropped her off at a corner in front of an apartment complex, she thanked me and offered $5, I declined.

3. Late 20s/early 30s male: Caucasian, had a olive green duffel bag and was wearing red plaid/khaki pants. Had his thumb up (hitchhiker beckoning). Thought about being nice and picking him up but decided against it. I usually go for attractive females/old people who look harmless. This guy made me feel that he was a murderer or something...didnt wanna risk it.

*Now picking up strangers can be detrimental to one's health, so if you decide to do so, its at your own risk.

no. never. won't chance it, don't trust people in general I guess. That said I have hitch hiked once. On Martha's Vinyard, to get to the next town over on the island, to see a movie. The folks we got a ride with? they were going to the movie too!

http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/member.php?u=17783drp967, why do you feel the need to post the exact same thread on more than 1 forum?

That said, picking up strangers these days is a very risky proposition.
While its not illegal in California, its extremely unsafe.

What if you get into an accident.
What if your passenger decides to have a medical emergency while in your car? You'll get sued in a heartbeat.

When I was living in the CZ in Ostrava I had a ratty Trabant that I used to take out for Sunday rides. I'd spend about 10 minutes push starting it, then head out to the airport and back and pick up hitchikers along the way needing rides into town. It was always really funny to see the look on their faces when they realized there was some American driving the Trabant they were in like some kind of CIA plant or something LOL!

Good samaritans get robbed and beaten to death and left for dead on some secluded back road these days. No hitchhikers in my car ever.

For that matter, I won't even pull over and help someone change a tire unless I happen to be armed.

Same, there's been some sketchy stuff happening up here.

People are putting a baby's car seat with a blanket over it on the side of the road, waiting for women to pull over and check it. Then gangs or tribes usually come out of the woods to take the women and rape/kill her. They're also throwing eggs at windshields in hope that the driver will try to use their windshield wipers, which is render their vision useless... aka, don't use your wipers if someone throws eggs at your windshield, just keep driving.

I will never pull over for someone, sorry, if anything I'll call 911 and continue on my way. You never know with some people these days.

I didn't realize there were tribes of wild men running around the Wisconsin countryside. Good to know I guess (Or is that just what you call black people over there?).
Lol, I'm referring to Native American (Indian) tribes up north.

I was driving with a friend down San Pablo in Oakland. About ten at night. My friend starts chirping off about a girl that was totally eying him. I look back and see what I'm sure is a hooker (mini skirt walking on the edge of the sidewalk).

He's totally adamant that she wasn't and that she was totally eye fucking him and how much he needs "it" right now. So we turn around and do another pass. Again I try to tell him it's a prostitute. Anyways, I pull over and she starts walking up. Right at that moment she says "cops cops!" and books it! The cop turns on his light and and drives up the sidewalk to block her path. I'm shitting bricks thinking I don't need this on my record. Seeing that there was only one cop and he seemed more interested in the female, I just slowly drove away. Never stopping for random girl again unless she's naked.

Tl;dr: if a girl waves you down, she's a hooker.
