Curious if anyone knows the reason for the plastic washer/shim piece on the top of the shock hats? We were working on my friend's car over the weekend and noticed it. Our assumption is that it's for noise reduction but just really curious more than anything.

My car came w/ coilovers already on it so no plastic part. So we didn't have anything to really compare it to.

It's a teflon washer to prevent squeaks of metal on metal contact. At least, that's what been on every Miata I've ever worked on. I've never seen anything thicker than about a paper's thickness of teflon on there.

That's a good idea that they put that in there. A lot of other cars I've dealt with before haven't had that and it seems like a cheap quick fix for a common issue with cars.
