I've been thinking about putting a power inverter in my car for a couple of weeks now. So my questions are as follows:

1.What types have you had success with?
- I plan to be able to run a laptop as well as charge a phone simultaneously.
2. Does anyone have a creative place to hide/place/house the actual inverter itself?
3. Has anyone made a write up about this? I've looked briefly and couldn't find much!

Don't get an inverter.

The most efficient way would probably be to buy a DC adapter/usb port. This way you are going straight to the device rather than converting DC to AC then back to DC.

Yeah, DC/DC converter might be your best bet. You could tap/reroute the power going to the cigarette lighter plug, stash the converters behind the stereo if you have room. Otherwise you could try hiding it under the center console (depending on size) or velcroing into the glovebox.

Imo a converter would be cool to have to run other stuff off... For a big ass one I would put it under the rear carpet close to the battery and cut the tray cover so you can pull back the carpet to get at it. Sort of behind the pass seat if you know what I mean.
You could tuck a smaller one up under the pass side dash
