I'm picking up a red hardtop sight unseen soon from a friend of a friend so I can trust the guy.

He says the paint is a bit faded so I assume its a very foggy red. No damage. no defrost.

What's everyone think it's worth as is? Cleaned up and fairly shiny?

I paid $550 for an early (no defrost / headliner) faded red but otherwise solid hardtop from Action Auto ~6 months ago. Apparently others had passed on it at that price for want of a top that "needed nothing".

"Cleaned up" is going to require paint... Out of curiosity (since I didn't want red anyway) I tried hitting it with Mothers compound and when that didn't work 1500 grit sandpaper. Got a bit of shine out of it, but it was still faded, not close to the original shade of red. Value after paint is going to depend on how good a paint job it is... Lack of defrost may or may not hurt the price a little depending on whether you find a buyer who values sense (who needs defrost in Houston) over the need to say they've got defrost and headliner.

I bought my HT with good paint but was trimmed for the main hoop on a spec cage for 850. That was the best price I have seen around here, it really depends on demand and rarity around you.
