Is there a medium point of of 'practical' low or rather a functional medium point?
Really I think it all has to do with you. Do you know how to drive a lowered/slammed car? Do you feel you should be able to exit EVERY driveway without risking ripping off your front lip? What kind of roads do you drive? Big speedbumps you just can't avoid? (ie. Where you live, or work?) Once you answer these questions, then you can figure out how low you can go.

I was a lot lower before and it was too much for me. There were many places I couldn't even attempt to go. I finally raised it a little and now I can clear most obstacles with little to no scraping. For me it's acceptable now, for others it would still be too much. I think it just depends on you.

^^^ this!!

Ive always thought it was retarded to ask other people what to do with your car, i mean its YOUR car so YOU decide so dont let anyone tell you what to with it, do some research and find what works for you.

Dropped is the new slammed.
dude if you scrape. it means your not low enough. go lower.
just writing TRUE to the above will sound like a contradication, so why not keep it simple & v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v v

don't listen to anyone, just lower it how you want, and DRIVE.
as no definitive answer will ever be able to be reached.

however, I would say, tucking rim is severe & tucking tire is a compromise. fender gap KILLS! so at least tuck tire tread.

the real answer is .
as low as you can go and still have clearance .
tire clearance to clear your fenders.
ground clearance to turn at full compression without slamming pavement
shock clearance so you dont bottom out on your bump stops prematurely

easy would be about 12-12.5 hub center to fender lip. My 92 sits at 12 all around and doesn't scrape on 90% of the roads around here.

When I had my old 94 at about 10.75-11 it scraped about half the time. I would replace the bolts on the rear brace every year because I'd grind them flat...

AHH! i might get flamed, but this is my only good pic that shows how dropped i am.
this is just from KYB shocks... end of story, its low enough for me, its functional, ride quality is awesome(a little stiff, and the adjustments on the shocks dont really change much in referance to ride quality) btw, this is 92, so from the factory they are already lower than most other miatas.
