We shall start with a few pics of her before she got parked and I started on the swap.

Wheel Tire Car Vehicle Land vehicle

She came with most hideous American Racing 5 spoke wheels, but shes spent time on a few different wheels from the long defunkt AZ RAWR from Phoenix meats and dicksuction thread. Here shes on 10 ae wheels ;)

Tire Wheel Automotive parking light Vehicle Car

Last good photoshoot she had before I hydroplaned and crunched a few panels.

This swap started with a dream... no seriously! I had a dream my uncle was trying to sell me a lifted 99 Dodge Dakota on 33" tires with a 20b swap. As soon as I woke up I knew what I wanted to do... 13b swap in the miata.

So it stayed parked at my friends land for about 5 years as I saved and grew up a bit.
Sky Tire Wheel Car Vehicle

Once she was back at my house I had to do a bit of cleaning as it was in a dirt lot for a while.

Sky Tire Wheel Car Vehicle

Once she was cleaned up I started with sound deadening and spray on heat rejection coating as she will not have any hvac I think I can afford a few extra lbs for comfort.

The easy to mask doors with out taking them off is just some drop cloths.

I'm still flabbergasted how good the trunk and door seals have held up over the years.

Hood Light Yellow Motor vehicle Bumper

I figured why not do the same treatment to the removable panels from the trunk and parcel shelf.

Road surface Automotive tire Asphalt Glove Bird

Next up is a new chassis wiring harness because it will be fresh wires/relays, cleaner, and so much easier to get to everything if diag is needed.

Got a nice little bracket done up to hold the fuse block on the firewall behind the glove box.

Just a little basic repaint.

All new parts in for wear items minus some used koni's just to get it rolling around.

I got the gas tank chem stripped for good measure and sprayed the bottom with heat rejection because im in Arizona and rotarys make some heat in the exhaust.

Next up is one of the hardest things I've done next to doing the fab for the engine... Tombstone delete along with all the vent holes!

Automotive tire Motor vehicle Asphalt Road surface Automotive exterior

For the following pictures fret not! The dash had a nice crack down the top of the pass side.

Tire Motor vehicle Wheel Automotive tire Bumper

Looks good on the test fit to me so now to begin an asinine amount of work.

Vehicle Motor vehicle Car Hood Automotive tire

So we decided on using expanding foam to fill the voids, sanded flush, soaked the top with a 2 part marine epoxy, sanded again, and the bondo to smooth. Also on doing the little metal strips as cross bracing and to get some structure and used a bit of cardboard to limit how far back the expanding foam went (not pictured).

Crash pads were already wrapped so i decided on a test fit before proceeding.

It took a week to get the center done with the afformentioned steps to fill voids. It was time to get another look at it in the car.

And now for the real stuff!

V8roadsters mount-less subframe vs stock. Thank god i went this way because it was already a hassle to get this engine in the way I wanted it.

Got the subframe all in so we could get started on the engine mounts.

After a little trimming on the firewall it sure looks like it belongs there.

Tire Vehicle Motor vehicle Automotive tire Hood

Like I said not too much trimming but then again there are what feels like a thousand layers of metal sandwiched together.

My fab guy was dead set on doing a cross brace to mount to. On the bright side there is no way im going to break an oil pan!

Hood Automotive tire Motor vehicle Bumper Automotive exterior

It was going to be way too much bs to stay with the ppf on the trans even though the FD rx7 trans uses one. So we did the mount like the ppf delete/FC rx7 mount.

Not too bad, only had to cut a bit of the firewall and I got it all behind the steering rack. The FD rx7 trans set the shifter about 3" back from stock position so a little kink in the shifter stock should bring it damn close to where it was.

Still gotta mount this plate for good when then engine and trans are back in after rebuild but it will make it nice and sealed in case of emergency.

Fuse box all mounted with a common ground block and now it has the 80amp bussman breaker mounted as well.

Racing beat 4 barrel intake manifold and dissassembled road race header are just hanging out in front of the car until the engine is back in.

I currently have the engine over at a friends house for rebuild. After that is back in its time to get the exhaust/fueling/intake done.

Just nice to see a rotary build really well documented. Always wanted to do one of these but got distracted with turbocharging the piston engines.

Ok, I promised an update so here it is though it is a bit short.

Got the breaker all mounted up. I'm itching to finish up sleeving and terminating all the dash wiring but that is for another day.

Motor vehicle Gauge Vehicle Measuring instrument Auto part

I guess you could say i am very grounded XD. 4gauge wire runs from the ground by the battery to the distro block above to this point which will go to the engine and the 12gauge from each headlight also terminates here.

And since i was thinking of the interior in terms of a 60's Porsche whats more appropirate than moving the ign cylinder to the cig lighter hole by the steering wheel? But first i must sand it to 2k grit!

Automotive tire Wood Motor vehicle Gas Machine tool

And then i had to cut all the ears off of it to fit behind the dash... and then trim a bunch of stuff behind the dash.
Luckily the hole is almost perfect and it naturally clocks to the start being at the 12 o'clock.

Need to catch up on this!

Sorry for the lull in updates but I've been busy with some other projects like...

Upgrading the speakers in my DD (15' FRS) with Blam Audio 165 rs components and a JL Audio RD400/4 amp.
Hood Motor vehicle Grey Automotive tire Grille
Automotive tire Audio equipment Bumper Rim Gas

Ended up souding absolutely amazing. Excellent seperation and clarity, I totally reccomend these guys if you have the budget for them. But I will say they dislike low quality audio files and really come into their own with lossless files such as FLAC.

I also blew threw the floor mat on my DD so i dropped 20 bux for a heel plate off amazon and it worked great and matches the stock pedals.
Wood Rectangle Gadget Flooring Floor

And final thing I got busy with was building a computer for my mom for her craft room in her new house.

I painted over the stock stripe with Honda Electric Blue paint to match Duplicolor. Just a little flare because I felt it needed something other than black.

Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
Corsair Vengance LPX DDR4 3200 @ 16GB
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB

Pioneer Blu-Ray drive
Cooler Master MasterBox NR400

Next post I'll get into what Ive done recently with the miata.

We finally got around to tearing apart the 13B and it was in really good shape other than some corrosion in the water jackets, but thats to be expected. The previous rebuild didnt see that much use and they only replaced what was necessary. Only one corner seal was cracked in half.

I also put in an order with vibrant-parts.com. It came so fast that i didnt even recognize the boxes when i got home. Ordered it on a Saturday and had it by Tuesday.

Heres the parts list:
6an nylon fuel hose
6an hardline fittings
6an hose fittings
1400* hose sleeving
2.5" Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator
2.5" 1 in 2 out Streetpower muffler

and some goodies for the DD
18" bottle resonator
2x 12" bottle resonator

The last pic is the miata exhaust bits. Tubing will come in on the right side of the resonator make a 180" to the muffler and have two 90* for the dual exhaust to finish out of the muffler.

I also got in the Holley Sniper EFI (no pics yet) and a OE Exedy clutch (almost had a stage 1 Exedy from Goodwin Racing but they couldnt honor the $530 price as they hadnt updated the price to match Exedys current pricing. They offered me 10% off current msrp but that landed me at $780 and this car isnt going to NEED a stage one. So i just ordered an OE kit through work (god i love working at a Mazda dealership).

Hopefully before the end of the month we will have the engine and trans in and we can get started doing the header and exhaust. Soon after that its on to ignition and wiring the rest of the engine bay.

Long time no post. Updates should be coming in soon. Engine is rebuilt and back in. Dash wiring is done. I'm basically on the SEMA crunch as I'm moving back to montana and my manager is pushing me hard to get it running and driving before I move.

That said I'll give you a peak into the after running stage of the build. Trap front lip, s2 racing trunk, and garage hundred one mirrors.

Hopefully some updates this or next weekend.
