Everyone at autocross has been asking me if I got rid of my Miata to buy the M3. For one thing, I can never sell that car, but I'm also finding that my driving is suddenly progressing dramatically quicker now that I'm driving two very different cars back to back, regularly.

I'm not sure I understand it, but maybe changing cars is forcing my brain to adapt my driving style and it's making me a better driver.

It might help that the Miata and M3 are very different cars right now. Idk. It's interesting though.
My guess is that it is forcing you to use the skills you have instead of being able to rely on muscle memory. You can't rely on what's familiar because it isn't and it's forcing you to feel out something new after you've developed more skill.

Miatas are getting too expensive to justify buying - averaging $10k around here for 150k mile examples, and up for anything nicer / lower miles. There are far too many better sports cars - Z3/Z4, older Boxsters, S2000s - available for the same money.
I paid 8500 for an nb with 81k miles on it that had some tasteful parts and was super clean. They're still out there but they're definitely getting harder to find for reasonable prices.

edit - something something s2k prices are very low

This. It’s not just drive MY car. It’s drive a new car with different attributes.
Yeah, I just won’t buy an NB… they’re not Miata enough for me.
I don’t like this take. NB1 is best Miata.

I’m in a mood to fight everyone and everything at work right now. Just fvcking sh!t up and leaving a wake I’ll have to surf tomorrow. Oh well. It’s fun today.

Yeah this makes sense to me. I think I got used to what I thought were the limits of my car and it just got baked into my muscle memory. Having a new platform with different limits has forced me to build a whole new mental model.

When I get back into my 'old' car it's like, hey, why not try pushing a bit harder right here...

Goal is to drive competitively once a weekend until November. Goodbye all my money 😂😭

You're not kidding. Track days are expensive. I'm trying to get 5-6 shakedowns in this fall before a full year of GridLife next year as well as running One Lap Of America. No mas money.

Not sure if hill climb and autocross and CoMpEtItIvE rAcInG allow that.
Actually both hill climb and autocross events generally pay their volunteers in entry vouchers or whatever. It's effectively free money for them. I might have to think about going that route some of the time this year, there's just a big time commitment and I can't always just take off work.

Speaking of taking off work... Decided to take off work this morning.

Yesterday I got an expense check in the mail from work and it's drawn on Silicon Valley Bank. I'm like, wtf... SIVB is all over the news for wiping off 60% of their share yesterday with an incredibly ill-timed fund raising round. I deposit the check and it clears at midnight.

I couldn't sleep and at 5 am I'm looking at the market and all these idiots like Peter Thiel are telling their startups to take all their money out of SIVB. So I slack our founder and I'm like, hey maybe we should pull like three or four months of operating expenses out of our bank and move it to another institution in case this goes tits up.

He's like, yes we should, I agree.

I tell my manager I'm taking a mental health day. Just been chilling, trading a little bit. Walk the dog.

Then I see this:

So. How's everyone else's day going?

When I see SIVB, I can't help but think of the 3rd stage of the Saturn V moon rocket.

Only need to buy two more things before I start assembling my Bikini top :)

Got a big bonus at work.

My son has probably played what will likely be the last ice hockey game of his childhood (and perhaps his whole life). That feels really weird.

Well if the Saturn rocket was fond of exploding they would actually be the same thing.
Well, it did kind of happen once. That's how we know that the Launch Escape system attached to the top of the crew module would've actually worked if the rocket had exploded with crew on board.

Can you tell I like Space stuff?
