Sure, why not? So long as you're representing your car as a replica and not the real deal it shouldn't be any problem. Fakes are easy enough to spot anyways. Even if you could collect all the right parts (good luck on that one) w/o a well-documented history including paperwork to back up the car's provenance it won't be nearly as collectible or as valuable as the real thing.
A dealer in the UK who brought in a genuine M2-1001 threw the paperwork out, figuring it wasn't worth anything. The car was rough; £6.5k, and badly repaired. Barely held idle and pulled to one side badly.
