Welp.

Long story short I bought this thing in 2010 and it was a turd. It still is. It's been through a couple different versions and all were terrible so now I'm tryna make it decent.

BBBs coming soon, squaretop coming soon.

I'll be asking a bunch of questions in here and bothering everyone. Especially Ben.

Goals: Have a car that handles very well. I want to stay na and have it be pretty quick anyway. Imagine Eifel but with less delrin.

Picture dump.

I don't have any pictures of the car as it is right now, but you're not missing much. The 6uls are gone, the racelands are gone, rollbar gone, that hardtop has been replaced by a much dumpier one, and that's about it cosmetically.

Currently the car has AWR motor mounts , RB front and rear swaybar, joyfast shift knob, and not a whole lot else. AC/PS have been removed.

Current plans.. install BBBs, install square top. Then find RB header, a full exhaust, an intake, do a coolant reroute, possibly the bp5a intake cam, oem rear sway bar, then find wheels I don't hate. Possibly use my emanage blue. Add in a GC fab rollbar and that's about it really.

I'm bad at these :smile1:

I drove to Ohio for a ford escort meet in 2009. Let's do it.

Also, fun fact, the title of this thread is a play on my wife's maid of honor's speech. We dated a long time ago and broke up. She goes "Chelsi told me that her and Eric were dating again and I thought 'sooo we're doing this again? Okay.'" lol.

If there's one thing I can say about myself it's that I'm a little too willing to meet strangers from the internet.
What could possibly go wrong?:smile1::suicide::lol:

Glad to FINALLY see a build thread, Eric! Looking forward to updates!:icon_cheers:

Surprisingly little has gone wrong meeting strangers from online. My parents lied to me in 2002.

Do we have an opinion on what the best "CAI" is? I see the K&N typhoon is used often and I'm working on trading my stock intake components for one, or there are a couple for 100 bucks on facebook marketplace. There is also an AEM, and an HPS with a head shield for about the same money. Thoughts? I haven't found anything definitive on these but I'm assuming that's just because they don't make a huge difference as long as they're aluminum.

$35 ebay AEM copy + AEM/K&N filter = soup.

That said, the AEM and its copy uses the power steering pump as a mounting point. You're a smart dude and i'm sure you can figure out a way around it in the name of saving $150-200.

Otherwise, i'm voting for the K&N Typhoon. It's what i use, which means it's the best.

Looks like they're up to 55ish now lol. With a likely junk filter. I'll see if I can make the trade for the K&N and if not then I'll pick the cheapest on facebook and go with it I guess.

As far as the bracketing is concerned, that's no biggie.

OEM.

(At least, if you're me)
I believe it was 949 that did a bunch of testing with the OEM intake and found it heat soaks and retains heat once it's soaked. Pretty terrible. Aluminum is the way to go apparently, and add some aluminum heat tape / insulation on top of that.

There's small gainz to be had with something aftermarket and if I'm doing an na build I need all of the help I can get lol.

Basically just make sure you get something Typhoon/AEM length. Lessening heatsoak, smoothing out the tract, and getting the right length is the key to not losing power with an intake.

The length matters the most, because resonance.

Just hurry up and buy a cheap one then tell me it works and which one... please.

Also... just glad to know I’m not the only guy to date his future wife then take a while off before getting back together for good. Life is wild.
