My wife took this picture at a grocery store in the DFW area. This is what is wrong with this country.

What's wrong with this picture? Just because your on a financial assistance program doesn't mean you should be eating only gross junk/grocery food...

I guess it pisses me off because there were times in my life when I couldn't afford luxuries like sushi, but I WORKED for a living. I don't see why people should get luxury food items paid for by the government. I never went on food stamps. I worked for a living and if I didn't have enough money for food I ate ramen noodles.

Food stamps are bullshit for the most part. I worked as a grocery checker for a while when I was a teenager. People would pile up their food stamp items in one pile, then their beer cigarettes, etc. in another pile and pay cash for that. So they had plenty of damn money for food, but they just don't have to spend it for that. We have to feed their lazy ass.

This is a good point, but she said ALL of the sushi products had this sticker.

I'm guessing this is more about marketing and moving product then it is about welfare queens. The fact that the grocer put this sticker on it doesn't mean that it has been purchased with food stamps.

In the U.S., lower income peoples can apply for federal assistance. Food stamps issued by the government is currency that only allows you to get food.

It's welfare. Basically people that don't work in our country can get free housing, free food and free medical care paid for by the government (US citizens). It's supposed to be used temporarily, but most of them use it so they don't have to work and let all of us pay for them to live for free. Also, social security disability is abused in a similar way. Many on disability are perfectly capable of working, they just don't want to.

I'm with the OP. I worked at a grocery store, and it would piss me off to watch people buy hundreds of dollars worth of food with foodstamps, then help them to their car, and see that they drive a new escalade. Meanwhile I had to walk to work and eat a plain baloney sandwich for lunch and ramen for dinner.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I NEVER checked out a person that was paying for their food with food stamps when they didn't have plenty of other stuff like beer and smokes, candy, etc. that they paid cash for. I checked out quite a few of those losers.

I do believe people need help with and I'm ok with them getting it... I just believe that people that pay with ebt for cigs or fast food that carry coach purse or have the latest iphone deserve any help

Theres nothing luxurious about grocery store sushi.. EBT is useable at subway and most gas stations, why not store made sushi?
