I've hit wall with the search for replacement volume rheostat for my "bose" head unit produced by FMS (4M31).

Does anyone have any leads for replacement component that I could solder in?
I've been unable to find anything that's remotely close. The actual rheostat is unmarked.

Worst case scenario I'll call sanyo and ask how much the replacement piece would be.

Well,

After calling everyone, local car audio repair, the jeff guy from miata.net, and some other random people, I still haven't found a replacement.

This morning I pulled the rheostat from the head unit to see if there was any ID on the backside, and there was "ALPS JAPAN".

Mouser turned up some similar products by ALPS but not a perfect match.

Cleaned it up with contact cleaner and put it back together and it works properly now!

The problem was that the disc that little brass fingers rides was grungy, but also badly grooved...
I still want a replacement knowing that there is significant wear.

Somehow this turned into a diy!
