I've been looking into building up an engine outside of my miata and swapping it in with the intentions of turboing it later, and I came across a potential swap in the FE3- basically a beefier BP engine from what it sounds like.

I want to make sure the swap is as painless as possible and it seems the best way to do that is to find a real Mazda FE3, not the one that comes out of the Kia. So my question is, is there an easy place to look, or a sure fire way to tell that the engine I'm looking at is the imported engine? I think I've read that the Kia FE3 has an 8 bolt pattern flywheel while the import has a 6, is there anything else I should be looking for? Thanks.

It didn't sound as bad as some others. Besides modifying the oil pan and intake manifold, if it's a Mazda FE3 a lot of the wiring is the same and it should mount up to an rx7 transmission easily.
