I kept my carpet to reduce the oven effect

I kept the carpet in my car for this reason, but still felt an increase in interior temp with the little bit of insulation underneath removed. I bought some adhesive backed heat barrier material for the underside of the trans tunnel. I only covered the driver's side of the tunnel, but it made a HUGE difference in the interior temp. I degreased the surface then went over it with rubbing alcohol for good measure. I was paranoid about it coming off, but it's still stuck on there...

Just drink lots of water and suck it up. I've driven all day in 90+ degree heat with the hard top on and no A/C in a full black car. You'll live.
