fixed. Steering u joint troubles

A while ago I dropped my front subframe, and after I got everything back together it seemed like I couldn't get the u-joint where it should have been in between the steering column and steering rack. It wouldn't cover the distance it should have. so I just made it nice and tight where it should have been on the steering column's side, and made it go as far as possible onto the rack's side. It drove perfectly fine for about a week or so, but today pulling into a parking space it completely let go, and the u joint undid itself from the steering rack leaving me steering-less. I just bolted it back the best I could how it was before and drove it home. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I'm not the best at explaining stuff, so I'll try to get pictures tomorrow morning to explain it better. Thanks for any help.

That U-joint has to be up far enough so that the pinch bolt goes in the groove in the shaft..that is why it fell apart. Put some grease on the splines after cleaning any grime or rust...
