Back in September of 2013, I bought a car to kick off my junior year of highschool. I remember scouring craigslist for a rear wheel drive car I could buy under three grand, and I impulse-bought my first Miata for $2500. After a couple years passed, the car was in a drivable, presentable condition. I had to sell it before going off to college, and I've missed the car since. After buying a shitty moped, a not shitty moped, and a shitty (really fucking shitty) Rav4 that exploded on me, it was about time for another car. I shopped for Civics, but every reasonably price coupe or hatch I looked at was a total pile (LOL ARENT ALL CIVICS AMIRITE.) After some decision making, I found a very good Midwestern Miata for a decent price. So as of August 10, 2017, I am the owner of this foreskin:

How the car came:
-1996
-Crank windows (dat arm workout)
-127,900 miles
-Yonaka Coilovers
-Ugly wheels/Dunlop Direzzas
-Very little underbody rust, but a few patches of surface/repairable rust in strange spots
-Very very very terrible headlights
-Missing cooling undertray
-Head was rebuilt a few oil changes ago
-Interior is decent, driver's seat is very worn

(I apologize for a lack of pictures in advance)

Being back in a Miata was great, it felt right. It was like I got all of my foreskin back.

And then my **** broke down, about 24 hours into the initial purchase.

The car was cranking slowly, and then the battery just flatlined. Wouldn't turn on the dash lights even. So before spending $150 on a replacement battery, I figured I should confirm it was dead by testing it at a couple places. Much to my surprise, both Autozone and NAPA testers said it was a-okay. So I start tracing wires, realizing the ground is complete ****.

A few trips to NAPA later, and I had rebuilt that little ground wire. The car still didn't want to do anything. So I checked the hot side of the battery, which initially looked okay.

It was not okay. It was very bad.

There was enough corrosion on the little stupid terminal to not let any current through, and after a good deal of wire brushing and re-installation, the car started right up. Insane how the smallest things can cripple a car.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

0/10 no foreskin. I am disappoint.

Nice car though.
I didn't ASK to be circumcised.

Lets start a shared build thread. We can call it A Tale of Two Foreskins
I'd touch tips.

Car needs a front plate in WI, and I don't want to risk it after being pulled for it once before, so I made a small GarageStar order. I really liked the effect of door bushings on my last car, so I got those too.

No pictars of the door bushings because no one cares, however I need to sand the driver's side, the door doesn't close correctly. Passenger's side is glorious.

Cibie 82440 and Hella 55/60w content, replacing terrible ebay shits.

(The POR-15 is for the various spots of surface rust I've found)

The P/O included some neat stuff, like a fitted cover and new vinyl seat upholstery.

Welcome back to another installment of the Great Big Peen Machine.

My passenger side mirror broke off while adjusting it, so I bought new mirrors. Initially looked for a used OEM unit, but really couldnt find any for a reasonable price. So I took the opportunity to look at the aftermarket. I decided on Vitaloni Baby Turbos, except not really. I got reps because they'd get here a month earlier than the real jawns, but for $60 less.

They look like bendy straws, which is fucking sick. So much better than regular straws.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the passenger side mirror base off, the screws are seized. Broke two gotdamn screwdrivers trying to get it off, so I am saving that for another day. The driver's side went on with a couple speedbumps, but ended up looking pretty.

That continental looks gorgeous. For the mirror base, use a high-power soldering iron or a small torch (soldering iron is more precise) to head the **** out of the screws and hopefully break them loose.
Preesh, it was recommended to me by a friend and I bought it the same night.

Squiblez got one of the screws out with his impact gun, and broke the head off of the other, so I am still sans mirror.

Have made 0 improvements to this car since last time.

Tried to get the radio to work. Found broken stuff.

Did a quick re-wire/splicing of that connector, the stock radio still didn't work, and the Continental stereo STILL hasn't shipped out. Also ordered a shifter rebuild kit for obvious reasons.

I also ordered FM frame rails so I can lower the car more and scrape on **** without further fucking up the stock frame rails (which are pretty ugly already.)

Also lowballed some dude on some wheels, so now I have some wheels coming in next week. They won't be mounted til next year, though. Any recommendations for some 185/60r14 tires that aren't Star Specs?

Also, this car is pretty clean for a midwestern car, but it has weird patches of surface rust in unlikely places. The trunk is ugly, I have POR-15 to take care of it before winter.

Cleaned and polished the car at night with Tamale, turned out real nice. Seeing the light reflect from the hood on the drive home felt neat. Still waiting on my parts from overseas, and the car doesn't seem to pull as strong as it should so i need to look into that.

Coming here to state Spring plans, because I always seem to lose my lists.

Driveline:
-Clutch pilot makes noise, going to replace with oem bearingz and exedy clurtch
-Lighter flywheel at the same time (probably fidanza)
-New seals at the same time cause my boys leak
-New gear juices/engine juices
-New thermostat because mine dont close no mo' -done 3/19/18, 130,400
-take a/c out, maybe p/s
-intake (apexi or ddm. apexi so pretty)
-exhaust ( maybe this thing right here )
-figure out the weird intermittent **** the car does
-check cam and ignition timing because i think my ign timing is off

Exterior:
-Acquire lip
-Roll fenders
-New turn signals bc leaky
-Drill out broken mirror bolt, install mirror. Look into my past.
-Hardtop, really hoping that prices are decent.
-maaaybe wheels. kinda dont know what I want to do with my stants anymo' -mounted k1 on 4/28/18
-oh yeah lower the car in the back because it has like 3" of rake -done 4/12/18
-new undertray because my car aint got one

Interior:
-wire wheel to the trunk, followed by copious por-15
-fix my battery harness/mounting situation
-Drill out broken shift boot bolts and install shifter boot
-yank out carpet and powerwash the nasties. take care of surface rust under carpet
-rewire my stereo for the 6th time lmao
-maybe some dynamat on the doors?
-I really want buckets BUT that prob aint gonna happen

Suspension:
-small clunk, probably from tie rods
-couple bushings here and there
-a fucking alignment of some sort

That should be about it. The list was a lot shorter in my head. Oh well.

If I use the weds I bought for the car, it should look something like this:

Otherwise I'm looking for some 90s wheels in 4x100 flavor. There's a set of 14x6.5 TE37s on ebay right now that I would really enjoy.

fair enough
i mean you have those weds, just slap them on and party, man.
save some coin and live to fucc another day
Need adapters for weds. Dont want to spend $350 on project kics adapters, dont want to run $100 ebay adapters. Problem is I also love dem tri-spokes.

MSW Type 25 is gonna be the wave until I have dollars or figure out what I want exactly.
