mondo bored at work so quicky non-update. been driving the car as much as possible, finally found my battery tie down and some other little bits that got lost in a recent move. Its nice having a car that’s mostly together and not a basketcase so you can focus on the little things.
recently final bout hosted a car show that my car was accepted to. This is about a 2.5 hour drive from me, the furthest I have ever driven the car. I installed new e-codes because the headlamps that were in the car were terrible.

Because of the poor quality of roads in Milwaukee, I raised the car about 1.5cm for a safer journey. Still bottomed out on the way there but not as hard. I plan to lower the car a smidge in the future before my next alignment. Additionally my friend gave me a ride in his s14 and I knew I had to drive USAir before I die.

As soon as I got home from final bout I got to work prepping my car to drift on the local skidpad. Fortunately there wasn’t much to do other than mount a fire extinguisher and get some reservoir socks. I also had to mount a set of tires to my spare mk-iii, which are 7j +0 and 7.5j -6. 185/55r14 is pretty easy to get on by hand so I just paid to have the fronts balanced. Fitting tires in a miata is no fun.

Pictures with 7j and 7.5j:

My friends came to support me my first time out on the skidpad, only for the car to explode the pressure line for the power steering 3 runs in. I got a replacement from NAPA and installed it last night, bleeding the system and taking the car for a shakedown later today. If all goes well, I will be attending the skidpad day this Friday as well. The goal is to drive a skidpad day every week until the season is up or until I break the car significantly. I am hoping this practice in conjunction with some “sim” driving will prepare me to drive USAir next year.

been skidpadding recently, keep blowing the 15a meter fuse (only when im drifting). i havent done anything to diagnose it other than look at the obvious surface level stuff. tomorrow is my last skidpad day before I start tearing the car apart for ITBs. still need to order megasquirt/fuel rail/wideband and plenty of other bits and bobs. hoping to have the car running by the end of the month if i can find a decent base map.

have been playing with my ITBs. cant get the car to idle or run worth a **** but if i play with the throttle it will start. trying to get it tuned to idle before the year is up, getting harder with the weather getting colder. i also got some te37 that look like they have never been mounted on a car, way too minty for my car

finished the physical install of ae101 ITBs (mostly, need catch can and iacv still). pretty happy with the bay being cleaned up overall. i think im just gonna run screen filters between the trumpets and throttle bodies? idk yet. it runs but its really tough to start and it runs like crap outside of idle. i have no idea how to tune a car so ive been chipping away at that.

in more exciting news, a friend of mine purchased a car and i have been providing housing for it. car is a basket in some ways but overall rust free. it came with 280k miles and no keys because all the lock cylinders were broken to some degree.it also came with straight up 50lb worth of garbage in the trunk. all of the locks have been replaced, and the stripped seat bolt holes were repaired with helicoils (pita).

owner has imported a set of watanabe in og size so they should look cool. his car will eventually be getting the megan ez's off my car and i will acquire bc coilovers probably.

wheels > everything else. but also it needs tires as a point of safety just as much as it needs brakes. winter and salty roads have hit already, the car won't be driven until next spring so we have plenty of time to repair it. everything that car needs mechanically could realistically be knocked out in a weekend's worth of work, and thats the beauty of the mazda miata

love the TE's, and the red car is almost like a do-over haha
i also like the TE's, probably more than the mkiii which is fuct.

i'm doing my best to just guide red car man without taking over or forcing my ideas onto the man, but it's hard as i am very opinionated haha. i guess thats what happens when you do something for a decade, but his car should turn out pretty neat. hoping that i am able to start making lips for NA when the weather is in better shape, and i am hoping that both of our cars wear one. maybe

Fair enough. You can ignore my objection.

sooooooooo red car got a bunch of work done, brakes and suspension are the big ones. we also put the lip on and pulled it out of the garage for a picture where it got stuck in the snow 4 times. worth it. next up for this one is a brake bleed and tracking down leaks. im really really excited for this car
