1994 Land Cruiser. This thing is boss. 4.5 liters of inline DOHC 6 cylinder madness, with a diesel bus transmission behind it. Seen here at Bonneville, picked it up last month in Norcal, about 3-4 miles away from where i bought the next one to be shown. Stock for now, will be lightly modded pavement pounder mallcrawler with overland looks. IMG_20171206_073848279 by concealer404, on Flickr
1998 Mitsubishi Montero Winter Package. What's a Winter Package? Gets you heated seats, headlight washers, some horribly ugly wood trim, and an onboard air compressor for the air locker rear end. 9.5" of rear end insanity, 9.0" of front diff insanity with 110mm CV axles. Currently wearing 15x8.5 -50 offset Enkei EK32s wrapped in 35x12.50r15 Cooper STT Pros, 2" 4Crawler body lift, some ebay snorkel, and a bangin' stereo.
Recently sold our 2003 Montero 20th Anniversary Edition. Awesome rig, but decided we wanted to get into an appreciating asset (the FZJ80) and something not black. This had an Old Man Emu HD lift and 235/85r16 E rated Duratracs. Stupid capable, stupid comfy, gorgeous, and generally a way more perfect SUV than you'd ever think could come from Mitsubishi.
I had a 98 Cherokee. Still miss that thing like crazy. It was all stock and lots of fun running around forest service roads.
I don't own an SUV but the guy that sleeps upstairs has a 2018 4Runner TRD PRO. It's quite comfy and capable enough. I'll snap some pics next time we go play.
It may be time to get something capable of having decent fun offroad and pulling a Miata in a pinch... but I spent that money on another Miata...
May I ask, since I've always wondered, what is that tab on the windshield wiper arm for?
Because I used to think it was to support the wiper in case it snowed on it, but given that 4Runners have it even though it hangs upside down, I'd wager that must not be the case...
Any clue?
Well... The Cruiser weighs 6000lbs, has a bus transmission, and a huge old school motor. Black monty had 32s and that 20mpg was at 80mph.
Green Monty has 35s and a 2" body lift. The questionable weak-from-factory motor isn't happy without a regear. It was better on 33s. Probably did 20mpg on stock tires haha.
Yeah. The Ecoboost in the 2016-2017s get 23 highway but still put out 365hp/420tq. The Ecoboost in the Raptor is even more amazing. If they had one in the showroom when I bought my EL, I would have bought that instead. 450hp/450tq with a 10-speed. Yes please.
'91 YJ body and frame. Everything else is about two years old...
- LS3 w/ GM 4 speed auto tranny with gated shifter
- Holden (Pontiac GTO) ECU for independent tranny control. (I don't need my foot on the brake to start and can shut it off and start it up in any gear)
- NASCAR 9" rear end w/ Adams chromoly axles and Detroit Locker
- Dana 44 front w/ Adams chromoly axles and Detroit Locker
- AutoMeter gauges, full cage, armour plating, racing seats w/ harnesses, QR steering wheel
- Bulldog 10K winch
- 6" Rough Country lift on 35s
The other one in my stable. One of the first LJs to roll off the assembly line. Was actually used as a test mule for all things suspension when the LJ was introduced. This one was searched out and purchased with intent. So much frame testing and reinforcement, notching, and jesus... a true one-of-a-kind experience.
- OEM engine/tranny w/ ~120k miles because it actually does more than lap the mall.
- Too many suspension modifications and testing to name... Fox, TerraFlex, AntiRock, etc.
- Atlas transfer case
- Dana 60s w/ Detroit Lockers and, of course, Adams chromoly axles
- 40s
- Warn 10K winch
And finally, my 1976 FJ55, according to DMV records. There's a VIN plate somewhere in there making it so.
- LS525HP w/ ... actually easier to just say it has all the acronyms of parts humanly possible...
License plate makes it legal! It's in a bit of disarray right now as the radiator had to be pulled to fix a seam weld failure due to the jarring stop of a rollover. Sort of like a Miata hitting a curb at 173MPH, to put it in perspective.
The cockpit.
Took me a few minutes but I found a 10mm box end so the Miata crowd would have a point-of-reference to the box ends I needed for the radiator water lines.
Adjustable coilovers! Just like Raceland. Only different.
Got some things for my SUV. (Waiting on torsion bars, rear springs, rear shocks) Not pictured: Adventure Driven Design "Bulletproofed" steering idler. (Chromoly kingpin and bronze bushings in new OEM idler housing.)
2004 Land Cruiser.
VAIS MML-T1, Infinity door speakers, rebuilt OEM sub, Amsoil everything.
Still on OE style tires and with the running boards. Wife loves them. We have taken it to 5 National Parks in 1 year of ownership. I've towed the racecar to Laguna Seca, Chuckwalla, AutoClub and Buttonwillow several times.
Long term plans are 275/70/18 A/T tires, OME 866 rear springs, running board and roof rack deletes, all the preventative maintenance.
I will probably never get rid of it.
