Well since I'm going to call Europe - more specifically the Azores - home for the next year or so I figured I would start a thread documenting my stay on the islands and any trips I take on the mainland. I also thought it might be a good way to meet some of the European miata folks. I highly doubt anyone on here lives on the islands (although I've seen a couple NBs already).

Here are some pics of the local town right outside of base. It's a very small town, with small cobblestone streets in most parts of the interior. My boss wanted to show me the town and took me with her when she got her nails done.

All pics taken with a Nikon D5000 and 35mm f/1.8

This was just outside the nail salon my boss was at. (The focal point was at the end of the street)

This was a cool sculpture/statue right next to the harbor/marina.

This series was taken along the waterfront before I got to the sculpture.

This was heading up to one of the many churches in the town

This one turned out to be one of my favorite shots of the day. My only gripe are the two flag poles right in the middle of the picture. I don't have photoshop so I couldn't edit them out. I have two different versions. The first one I "warmed up" the photo with basic Mac editing software. I like cause it adds a touch of color to the brick. The second is the original.

So thats my first island photo dump. There will be many more to come over the next 15 months. Please feel free to comment on them and what I can do better as far as exposure, composition, ideas, etc.

Thanks me to. Part of the reason I wanted to join the AF was to see parts of the world I might have ever seen.

Hope everyone a good new years. Mine was off da chain yo. A few of my office partners, my supervisor and I all went to this nice ocean front restaurant, then out to few bars and ended up at the Zodiac (club/bar). Boy do the locals know how to party. They all walked around with bottles of something or another. Me on the other hand I was very impressed with the long island iced teas. Most of the ones I had in the states put me on my ass pretty quick. The ones here were much more friendly. The beer of choice was Super Boch, which is like Bud, but with more flavor.

The Zodiac was a pretty cool place once the dance floor livened up. There were a ton of Air Force people there as well as the locals of course. Most speak some kind of english so it made it easy to talk to the ladiezzz. Most of them are very pretty and friendly. Definitely looking forward to going out again.

Well done Lajes. Well done.

Once I find some worth taking pictures of I'll post em. The cars around here are just beater Citroen, Alfa, Peugeot, and few old Mercedes. 90% of the cars here are manual, which is cool. There are a few diesel BMWs and Mercedes as well.

I plan to tour Europe over the next year. Depending on funds and how much leave I have will determine where I can go. Hopefully I can make it to your neck of the woods before my tour is over.

ahhhh i've heard many good staries from people about that place.

btw whats your AFSC?
Knowledge Ops. It's in the 3D career field.

Are you currently stationed at Spangdahlem? Do you like it better than Ramstein? I get a follow-on after this tour and might consider staying overseas.

Part of me wants to go back home so I can have my car. I could ship it over here, but the car regulations are retarded and aren't worth the hassle.

That looks like an awesome place to serve! Pretty damn far out though!

Will be following this, and if you visit Norway hit me up, I will be sure to show you around and might have a couch (or dorm floor, depending on time).

One of the reasons why im wanting to go back stateside is cause parts get there SOOOOOOOO much faster than shpping to APO . To give you an idea.... i ordered some stuff from tire rack and it took about 3 months to get here :cry2:. but when the stuff got here i was happy:mrgreen:.

and also im planning on seperating after i get back stateside.

How long have you been in?

Why do you want to separate so soon?

I'd have my parts shipped to my home address. That way I know they get there, not to mention shipping will be cheaper.
