Green and red vinyl tops were optional extras since about 1990, in Japan.

The red vinyl top is quite, red.

Very nice scans!!!! Which special edition had the red vinyl roof? red/red would look hot!

Oh yeah- one thing that always strikes me as funny is that these VR limiteds come with the nice and shiny speaker grills, but they don't actually have a radio :):) It's blanked out!

No special edition Roadster NA had a red roof; it was a shop option. I have a picture someplace of a UK owner with an original red mazda hood on a red Roadster. TBH, it doesn't look too hot.

Is there any way to get the green soft top?
Cabrioworld offers Sonnedecke? canvas in Racing Green and English Green and "German" canvas in Mineral Green. You'd need to request samples to decide which one looks best match for you. I'm having a hard time finding a company in the USA that advertises green vinyl Miata tops but most companies that sell tops (whether Robbins, Haartz or other brand) are willing to work with customers on a custom solution. I imagine that finding a genuine Eunos option green vinyl top in new (or even used) condition is exceedingly rare. Richy's green "mohair" top looks super.

Q. What's the difference between the three cloth materials- Stayfast Cloth, Sonnedecke Cloth and German Cloth?
A. The Stayfast is a very good quality material. The Sonnedecke Cloth is Haartz? version of the German Cloth and is a very good match- very high quality. It is argued that the Sonnedecke is a tighter weave than the German cloth and thus a better material. The Sonnedecke also has the dobby criss-cross style backing as the German- the Stayfast cloth does not have this. We would recommend the Sonnedecke cloth for any vehicle that came originally with the German Cloth because both materials are comparable, and the Sonnedecke is a fraction of the cost of the German cloth. The Stayfast we would recommend for all others.

Robbins just makes tops. Haartz makes the material (Robbins uses Haartz materials); in fact, virtually all top manufacturers source their vinyl and "mohair" from Haartz.

I recommend tops made by Trim Technology:
http://www.trim-technology.co.uk/store.php/cPath/40_41

and sold by
www.jimparts.co.uk
www.autolinkuk.co.uk
www.sftmx5parts.co.uk

They'll make you a top in Haartz green vinyl for you, at a good price. Some people don't like the redesign they did, but it works really well if you have a rollbar. As for quality; Trim are OE supliers to Jaguar and Lotus, as well as outfitting the British Army with special Land Rover tops for use in CBRN warfare.
