Hello,
So I finally made a DIY rollbar camera mount. Then my FLIP broke that afternoon. Awesome.

So now, I'm in a market for a new video camera for my runs. Yes, I know about the Go Pro, but I want something that wouldn't look so weird when I'm shooting a video at a Christmas party, but I don't need something fancy. I'll mostly be using it in/on my car. Basically, I need a Go Pro for non outdoor extremists(Something with a screen would be nice because I'll be taking pictures with it too.) Of course, I don't want something that's going to shoot only at 15 fps at 800x600 ya know?

What are you guys using at the track/daily life for recording your drive?

or is Go Pro the only solution?

As for price, maybe something in the $100-$150 range

Thank you!

I suggest the go pro, who cares about looking weird its small and AWESOME.

I personally shoot a canon vixia hf20 with a dm-100 mic and canon wide angle lens for all my youtube videos, you can check out my videos if you wanna see quality be sure to watch in 1080p.

I just use my dslr for video, its a canon t1i. Sucks at 1080p during fast motion/panning, but 720p is buttery smooth and I can get more vid time on the sdcard at 720p anyways.

Conture Rom 1080P. $80 from Amazon. Works good now that I got the firmware updated and volume is working. You can adjust video and sound right from your computer. Worth every penny. For night driving it came out really good. Much better than my Gopro.

Good to hear that you like your contour. They're based in Seattle! My buddy designs products for them.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess if you have some awesome footage from your awesome video cameras.. now is the time!

I'm probably going to bite the bullet and just shell out for a gopro. I'll look into Conture though!

I have the Kodak Zi8, it's a pocket cam but has a Mic. input for remote microphone so you can put it closer to the dash for less wind noise or i've seen some put it in the engine bay for all the cool turbo/intake sounds. Only down side I have with it, is when you mount it at the bottom and don't have it braced against something it will wobble and shake, (think of filming with an iPhone put only hold the bottom with two fingers). Other than that it works pretty good for the price I think.
