Looking at my friend Mike's car tonight, we noticed something strange. He's been having a slight running issue, and his timing will not adjust any farther than 12*BTDC. Because of this, we pulled the cover to check the timing tonight.

the camgears line up perfectly to each other, now we're wondering on the crank.

The engine is bone-stock, except the timing is at 12*. With I up on intake, and E at 4, and E up on exhaust, I at 7, and 12* of timing, his crank pulley notches do NOT line up with his timing cover marks. Should they?

If the strobe flashes when 1 fires, and you see it at 12-14*, shouldn't the 10 and 0 notches line up pulley to motor when the motor is at the beninning of the timing sequence, or is the fact that the PULLEY 10* mark is 4-6 degrees clockwise from the timing cover 9 mark normal?

I expect to see something like this:
--> <--10
-
-
-
-
--> <--0

Instead I see

<-- 10
-
-
-
-
<-- 0
-
--> -
