I owned a RA65 ('85 Celica GT btw it had the digital UBER-FUCKING-RARE dash) w/ 22RE, and I would give almost anything to have it back. IMO I liked it better than the AE86 (a friend owned one at the time). They are very similar in ever way, except the celica is bigger and heavier but I'd always blow the doors off my friends AE86. The 22RE was easy to turbo because they put the 22RET in some toyota trucks, parts were available off the get-go to upgrade. PLUS!! the RA65 was available in a TRUNK MODEL!! :fab:

Why didn't the RA65 get the cult following that the AE86 got.

Discussion....GO!

I just did a little research, the one I had with the digital gauges is almost non-existent in the US, and very rare. I sold that car for $100 because it needed a clutch , as i recall I needed money for gas for my 91GST eclipse to go on a date that weekend (i was 17). I'm a fucking moron.

3rd gen celicas have a cult following just not that big since ppl go for the supra and since gts one are
Kinda rare. hell I saw one a few days ago for 900 original owner gone in mins.

I would love to pick up an 85 or 86 CelicaSupra if I had the money, I always admired the MKII supras when I had my MKIII. Those things are mean as hell with a 7M-GE swap. If gas prices were going to stay under $4/gallon I would actually consider picking one up as a daily driver to keep from putting miles on my WRX, but I may have to settle for a FWD Celica instead, though I'll be happy to own a Toyota again.

Yeah its the same just that the supra came with IRS standar u had to get a GTS for IRS I don't remember if its a direct swap but I think it was its been a while since I've been deep in the celi way of life :p

85 celica, GT, GTS, and Celica Supra are all the same chassis. beyond that I dunno.

are you sure the GTS was IRS? Pretty sure they were solid with all the same **** as the GT, they were just MUCH fucking heavier. They had some crazy active damper and...**** i can't remember what all they had but I think they had the same 22R as well...i've done no research to back this up i'm going solely off my memories from when I was 17, and its shitty with all the porn, football, and keg parties i was involved in at the time.

No its not a direct swap, its a lot of work, I remember researching it a little while i owned mine. But for mad tyte driftz a solid axle would be the way to go. Plus the GT rear axle was BADASS. In the 4cyl circle track world they call them "poor mans quick change" because its very similar to the ford 9". I remember I'd do some stupid **** in my celica, hence why the clutch was fucked. but the rear end always held strong and made 2 "cool back in the day" black marks. One-wheelie-peelies aren't cool...no matter who the **** you are (unless your on a bike).

Yeah the gts and supra came with IRS I would alway see guys with GT looking for GTS or Supra part outs for the IRS.
Its a good car but ill take a ST165 or a ST185 any day eventhough there kinda hard and expencive to find.

the GT-s and the Celica-Supra's are the same car from the firewall back, the supra has an extra 6 inches or so in the front fender to accomodate the motor. I love mine, parts are a chore though. I've had to research everything and pull parts from different cars that share some similar designs. That car is almost completely mix-and-match as far as aftermarket goes, and all the 40 year old assholes on the forums do is talk about how they changed their oil or replaced their alternators, why on earth somebody would want to intentionally lower a celica or use it for anything other than mudding in West Virginia, and how backyard wrestling is apparently what america is missing out on. :| There were about 4 guys on that forum that knew what was up. The rest were just tools.
